A completely enjoyable, easily readable first book for a new series. I found this book different in that Cade, while Dominant, was given a fun, playful personality which I haven't found much in D/s or spanking books. I loved Stormy's personality & her weird little sayings. While it is a standalone book, I did appreciate how it introduced characters with an obviously ongoing plot line to bring into future books. Looking forward to more in this series. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy.

Stormy Wagner is helping her best friends mother (Joan) . Cara was deployed out of the country and her mother was ill. Cade was Caras brother. He had come home to help look after his mother. Joan was like a second mother to Stormy. Stormy helped her walk the dogs and helped her anyway she could. Joans health bring the two together again. There is danger afoot. Can Cade help keep her safe? I was given this Advanced Reader Copy to voluntarily review. I found it spell binding. There is mystery and twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat through out the entire book. It has love and loving discipline and a man working hard to keep his love safe. It also has sadness at the illness of a serogate mother. This book is well rounded and very interesting.
After ten years, Stormy's first love Cade has returned to town to care for his ailing mother. It is not very long before they fall back into each other's arms, but life is not so easy or simple. Someone has been stalking Stormy, leaving flowers on her car and at her house. However, once Cade returns, the threats grow darker and more dangerous. Cade is committed to keeping Stormy safe by any means necessary, even if it takes a few trips over his knee to remind her of the rules. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Megan McCoy is one of my new favorite authors. Cade is strong but sweet, funny but firm, mild-mannered but determined. Stormy is smart, funny, and loving. Between the strong characters and the exciting plot, this book is completely enthralling, and I eagerly await the next three books in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
It could have been a sweet romance/mystery but the H's character was just too arrogant and cocky for my taste. He punished the h because he he felt like it even when she did nothing to deserve it. They were not in a D/s relationship nor did they set limits or have a safe word. The H even lied to her something she would have been punished for but he didn't even feel bad for doing so. I really hate when authors allow the H to do or say whatever they want but have the h punished for doing the very thing the H did. That is the very definition of misogyny; males inherently believing they're better than/ control women because they have a penis. The storyline and editing were good if you can see past the rest.
I didn't read where Stormy consented to this type of relationship with Cade. They obviously had a history, but it would have been nice to have more details about it. Years later, Cade comes back and just takes over her life?
I am all for alpha males, and Stormy may have been naturally submissive, but this story felt rushed. Which is why I didn't get any sense of consent. Was The writer trying to crank out a book and some of the detail was overlooked?
What was the deal with Stormy's parents? Just a mention here or there, but no detail.
The chapter endings to beginnings of the next chapter didn't seem to have a smooth transition. There was no conversation about what Cade was going to do at the end of his year, he just ignored the issue.
This wasn't a bad story, but the lack of details made it seem like the story was not fully developed. It was lacking a good foundation to build on.

This first book of the South Dakota Dreams series was a great start. Marissa Storm (Stormy) lives in a small town and is content with her life. She owns a pet store, has been part of the community since she was young, and helps her neighbor Joan. Stormy grew up with Joan's kids (she is best friends with Cara and has always liked Cade). When Cade comes home to help take are of Joan, he and Stormy reconnect and begin spending time together. Cade seems easy going and fun but also has a protective alpha side with those he loves. Even though Stormy does not believe that men will stay, she opens her life and her heart to Cade. At the same time, Stormy has a stalker. While the stalker seems harmless in the beginning, things escalate and become dangerous. Will Cade be able to protect Stormy from harm? Will her heart be safe in his hands? Will her bottom be safe in his care? Come read and find out. It is well worth the read!
I highly recommend the first book in this new series. This story includes mystery, intrigue, and crime, with plenty of suspects to keep the reader guessing. However, the fun does not stop there as there is plenty of domestic discipline with spankings that were firm and consistent but not over the top. Sex was implied but not a lot of detail and the characters drew you in and made the readers want to keep reading until the end. For a book that you can't put down from start to finish that includes plenty of love, come read this wonderful new series. I can't wait for book two! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
